  • Large skillet

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup butter, [60 grams]
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dried chili flakes, or hot sauce, to taste (optional)
  • 2 dozen large shrimp, (uncooked, peeled)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley, or chopped cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice, or lime juice
  • 2 teaspoons salt, (or more, to taste) divided
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges

Preparation

1. Sauté garlic

  • Sauteing garlic.
    In a large skillet, heat the butter over low heat.
    Add the garlic and cook, stirring, until the garlic releases its aroma (1-2 minutes).
    Add half of the salt, chili flakes, and lemon juice, and cook, stirring, until the mixture is heated through again.

2. Cook shrimp

  • Shrimp.
    Increase heat to medium.
    Add the shrimp and cook until the shrimp turn pink.
    Season with salt to taste, mix in the parsley, and remove from heat.

3. Serve

  • Garlic butter shrimp.
    Remove from heat and serve with lemon wedges.

Top tips

  • Shrimp: For this recipe I prefer large shrimp, but any type will work fine.
  • Butter substitute: You can switch butter for olive oil if you want a lighter alternative.
  • Chili flakes: If you don't like spicy food, you can leave them out, but they add a nice touch to the dish.

Serving suggestions

This is a versatile dish that you can serve with chopsticks as an appetizer or as a main course. It goes very well with baked potatoes, bread, or served over boiled pasta.
